When Quinn and Lyza told me they wanted an at-home bar engagement session, I was all in. Who says engagement photos need to follow the same formula? These two skipped the usual parks and beaches and went with something that felt true to them: mixing drinks together in their best friend’s home bar.
They knew they wanted to involve making cocktails, but we had to find a bar that would actually let us! It’s surprisingly tough to find a spot where you can go behind the counter and mix the drinks yourself. Normally, I’d suggest renting something on Peerspace, but we wanted to avoid driving super far and dealing with strict time limits.
Their friend’s house has a full indoor bar setup—no crowds, no distractions, just their own space. They brought their own cocktail gear and made three different drinks together. It was personal, fun, and full of moments that felt natural and unposed.
I followed them around as they laughed, shook mixers, and tried to kiss mid-pour (which made for some hilarious shots). This at-home bar engagement session was less about perfection and more about connection.
Quinn and Lyza have become dear friends, so seeing their relationship in this setting made it even more special. There was no pressure to “perform” for the camera—just two people in their element, doing what they love together.
Sessions like this are my favorite because they tell a story that’s totally unique. The cocktails, the laughter, the quiet moments between drinks—it all came together naturally.
If you’re planning engagement photos and want something non-traditional, think about what feels like you. Whether that’s your favorite bar, your living room, or your go-to date night spot, there are no rules.
I’m based in Los Angeles but shoot all over SoCal. If you’re dreaming up a fun, personal idea like an at-home bar engagement session, let’s chat—I’d love to bring it to life.
