A Pasadena Engagement Session for Music Lovers

Some engagement sessions just feel very them, and this Pasadena engagement session absolutely did.

We started the session at a local record store since music is such a huge part of their relationship. Instead of forcing overly posed moments, we leaned into the things they actually enjoy doing together, like flipping through records, sharing favorite albums, and just hanging out together. Honestly, it felt more like documenting a really good date night rather than a traditional engagement session.

The record store gave the session such a cozy and personal feel. Between the vintage records, soft window light, and candid moments, the whole space added so much personality to the gallery.

Pasadena City Hall Engagement Portraits

After the record store, we headed to the Pasadena City Hall for a completely different vibe. The architecture, archways, and soft neutral tones added a much more editorial feel to the second half of the session while still keeping everything romantic and relaxed.

Their outfits worked perfectly for the space too. The city hall photos ended up feeling timeless, cinematic, and a little playful all at the same time.

I always love mixing locations like this because it gives couples a gallery with a lot more variety and personality instead of every image feeling identical.

Why Personalized Engagement Sessions Always Photograph Better

Truthfully, the best engagement sessions are usually the ones that feel the most honest to who you are as a couple. One of my favorite things about activity-based engagement sessions is how naturally people settle into them. Having something to do during photos immediately takes pressure off and helps couples feel way more comfortable in front of the camera.

And for couples who love music, bookstores, coffee shops, arcades, or places that actually reflect their personalities, incorporating meaningful locations always makes the photos feel more personal overall.

You do not need to force a Pinterest-perfect version of yourselves for photos to feel meaningful. Incorporating places, hobbies, or little parts of your relationship into a session almost always leads to images that feel more natural and memorable in the long run.

And honestly? A record store date followed by city hall portraits in Pasadena is a pretty hard combo to beat. Feel free to send me an inquiry to plan out your engagement session here!
